Full Specification & History
Our 1964 Morris Mini Cooper S has been in the Sime family since 1966. Jimmy Sime used it successfully in racing and hillclimb events, with podiums at Ingliston and Croft and an overall Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) at the famous Rest & Be Thankful Hillclimb in 1969.
Since 1971, the car stayed off the road and apart from a brief appearance at a Hillclimb at Strathclyde Park in 1983, off track, with other motorsport participation and activities taking priority. 2013 saw the Sime Racing team start to embark on a full restoration, to FIA K specification, which completed in early 2016 and saw Barry and Jimmy return to competing in the same car.
2016 exceeded expectations with podiums overall and in class at every event entered and culminated in Barry lifting the 2016 HSCC K3 Class Championship overall.
The car (and drivers) story has been extensively covered in the April 2017 edition of Mini Magazine, with credit to www.downtonphotography.com for the words and pictures in the article.
